Can I apply for this Scholarship if I only have one deaf parent?

-Yes

Can I apply for this scholarship if my deaf parents don’t use sign language?

-Yes  

Can I apply for this scholarship if I don’t use sign language?

-Yes

Can I apply for this scholarship if my parent is hard-of-hearing?

-Yes, but we encourage you to read the essay prompt to be sure your specific experience can help you address the essay prompt.  

Can I apply for the scholarship if I was born deaf?

-No

Can I apply for the scholarship if I lost my hearing late in life?

-Yes, if your parents are deaf and you lost your hearing after the age of 18, then you are eligible for this scholarship.  

Can I apply for this scholarship if I am not a United States citizen or resident?

-Yes, we welcome applications from around the world. 

If I’m in college now, do I have to submit a high school transcript?

-It depends. If you graduated from high school within the last five years, then we require a high school transcript as well as a college transcript if applicable. If you graduated from high school more than five years ago, and you have completed at least one year of college course work, then we only need your college transcript.  If you graduated from high school more than five years ago, and you have less than one year of college course work, then we need your high school transcript.

Can I apply for the scholarship if I was a previous winner?

 -No

Can I use scholarship funds toward graduate school?

-No  

Can I use scholarship funds to attend a technical school or a community college?

-Yes, as long as the institution is accredited.

Can I use scholarship funds at an unaccredited university?

-No  

Who should write my letters of recommendation?

- Your teachers whenever possible. We use letters of recommendation to help us evaluate your potential to succeed in higher education.  If your circumstances are such that you cannot find teachers to write letters in support of your scholarship application, then you may ask others who can speak to your ability to succeed in higher education.

Note that the online recommendation letter form will be emailed to your teachers upon submission of your online application form.
