Region Reports for the Month of January, 2015

Respectfully Submitted by the Coda International Board of Directors

Region 1 - Mary Bacheller

Region 1 is in the process of a Region Retreat for November 2015 or March 2016... we are checking out two different venues in Catskill area In NY to see which one would be available to us.... We had a meeting at the end of Oct. and plan on another one at the end of FEB to avoid meeting during the snow.  At the Feb mtg we will also continue our talk about fund raising.  And getting more people to CODA.  A challenge was made of bringing a new Coda to our mtg in Feb.

Region 2 - Summer Chappell

We are in the planning and preparing stages for our annual Secoda Retreat. The retreat this year will be 13- 15 March 2015 in Dayton, TN, USA. The keynote speaker for the weekend's event will be Lena Van Manen. The committee has agreed to deciding and hosting a fundraiser for CODA International during this event. The fundraiser has not been decided on at this point. The planning committee will be meeting this Saturday, 10 January 2015. Secoda is planning to again offer paid memberships to CODA International for attendees who are new to any type of Coda event. I am working closely with this year's planning committee. We hope the event and the fundraiser are a success!

Region 3 - Richard Herod III

Region 4 - Billy Collins - President

Much of my time was spent answering emails, questions  and phone calls mostly about our budget,  the two upcoming conferences (both UK and Austin), the Strategic Plan, and what seems to be 98,000 other things going on at this time. Have had a couple of gatherings of local Codas to encourage them to become involved with the conference in 2016 and Larry Barnett and Beth Schreiber are doing a lot of work behind the scenes.

I believe the Region IV Retreat for Colorado is on track and will be a success and I see that Abababa’s Camp will be a lot of fun as well.

The Strategic Plan has had such a wonderful response so far:

English: 251

German: 27

Spanish: 1

French: 1

Thanks to Willie White, Ray Williams and Dirk Tabbert for their help in getting this translated and the word out to other countries.

Region 5 - Robin Dragoo

Region 5 is planning its annual retreat to occur on 16-18 October 2015. The retreat will happen at the Cedar Ridge Retreat and Conference Center. 45 minutes west of Portland, Oregon USA. We are tentatively planning a workshop, breakouts, theme night and a silent auction. The proceeds from the silent auction will go to Coda International. I had a conference call with the planning committee on Thursday, 8 January 2015. They are excited to work on the retreat and planning future meetings. There is a cap of 40-50 for this retreat.

Region 6 - Ray Williams

CODALAND is currently heavy into planning for this July!!!

CODA Dach are preparing a retreat in May, they did ask me to attend as Region 6 rep, they even fundraised my boarding costs for the retreat, however I am not available on that date.

I am building connections with the CODA groups that I am aware of in the Northern Hempishere and have been replying to emails as and when they come in.

I am also trying to actively promote the 2020 Survey to Region 6 members! It was great to see that even though English is not the first language of the majority of Region 6 countries we had the highest response rate when Krista first posted the survey stats. Now working on the marketing of the French, German and Spanish versions before the survey closes on January 30th.

Region 7 - Jayde Perry - Treasurer

The Codas in Australia Facebook page is still alive & kicking. Trying to make contact with CODA Hong Kong. I only have access to contact them via their Facebook page however it's all in their native language so I'm unsure if the administrators understand English. My initial contacts have been about our organisation & the strategic plan survey.

Had contact by CODA Ghana, they are keen to have ongoing support from us. I've shared our survey with them which they've diligently shared on their Facebook page along with most posts that initially occur on our page.

A Coda in Kenya made contact with our organisation, I have followed up correspondence with him. He is currently working with a small group to establish a formally recognized CODA group, until this stage is completed they are unable to commit to a Facebook page. Once set up I'll be assisting them with ideas for fundraising & activities.

Member-At-Large - Jennifer Hensley - Vice President

I've been continually working on the Conference Manual, and will finish it soon to be approved by the Publications Committee. Our inaugural CODA for Kodas Grant is ready for Board recommendation, and we hope to notify recipients after this weekend - with Board acceptance and approval of recommendation. The Koda Committee will revisit the review process and the rubric - we will be making adjustments for the second RFP later in the year.

The CODA International Zazzle store has been created. Region V member, Abby Coyer and I are working together to create preliminary items to sell in the store as official CODA Merchandise. The store will allow us to promote CODA, while functioning as an ongoing fundraiser for the organisation. Details of the virtual storefront will go out to membership soon.

Finally, our Facebook page has been reaching tons of new Codas and various Coda organizations around the world! We are at 1,715 "likes" and continually growing!

Planning will begin next week for a Coda fundraiser in Arizona later this spring benefitting CODA International and local Deaf non profits. Details about this exciting event will be shared once confirmed.
