MILLIE BROTHER SCHOLARSHIP FOR
HEARING CHILDREN OF DEAF ADULTS

The Millie Brother Scholarship is an annual scholarship awarded to hearing children of deaf adults to help them pursue their post-secondary education. The scholarship can be used for undergraduate at any accredited institution of higher education in the world. These are one-time scholarships, but you may apply for as many years as you are in school. You may only apply if you have not previously won this scholarship award. 


Applicants must be the hearing child of Deaf parents; students from any country in the world are eligible to applyYou are invited to submit your essay in your native language, if preferred, but must also submit a second copy in written English. We will make every effort to find a native user to review your essay. Please see our Frequently Asked Questions for further clarification



The Millie Brother Scholarship is currently not accepting new applications.Our next application cycle is 1 March - 30 April 2023. Please check back here in early 2023 for more details, or contact us via email at scholarships@coda-international.org.


The scholarship application package is as follows:

  1. The online application form. 

  2. Essay: 2-page double-spaced

    1. Describe how your experience with Deaf parents has shaped your life and your goals.

    2. Include a description of your future career aspirations.

    3. Essays will be judged for organization, content, and creativity. We encourage you to ask someone else to proofread your essay before you submit it.

  3. In addition to 1-2 above, each applicant must submit:

    1. a transcript from your high school and your college or university (if you are currently enrolled). Unofficial transcripts are sufficient, however Official transcripts (although not required) can take several weeks to process, so we encourage you request your transcripts well in advance of the deadline.

    2. two letters of recommendation from teachers (a link to the online recommendation forms will be sent to your letter writers directly upon receipt of your online application)The application package is not considered submitted until we have received your two recommendation letters, which must be received by 30 April 2022.

Non Codas interested in becoming Supporting Members are encouraged and highly welcomed. Persons joining as a voting member or registering for CODA International conference or specified events, found to be non-Coda will automatically have their status changed to Supporting Member and any dues or fees paid to CODA will be forfeited.
