“CODA or Bust”
Colorado Springs, Colorado
July 9-12, 2009
Crowne Plaza Hotel
www.crowneplaza.com
There was a popular saying in the 1800s – Pike’s Peak or Bust. People were determined to make it to Colorado and go for the gold. Now Codas can “go for the gold” by coming to Colorado Springs to the CODA Conference. We invite you to join other Codas and enjoy the mountains, clean air, blue skies, and the beauty of Colorado while attending the 24th Annual CODA Conference.
We will be staying at the Crowne Plaza Hotel where the room rates are $109.00 per night. There is free shuttle service to the airport in Colorado Springs. Colorado Springs is 70 miles from Denver. If you fly into Denver, you need to rent a car to get to Colorado Springs or check with the hotel on the cost of shuttle service from Denver. You can call the hotel anytime to make your reservations. Their number is 719-576-5900 or you can call 1-877-227-6963 or email crowneplaza.com/coloradospring.
We are very fortunate and delighted that we will have Trudy Schafer Hoffmeister as our keynote speaker. She has been a member of CODA for many years and has served as our president.
On Thursday morning, Codas and family members can board a bus that will take them through beautiful Manitou Springs where they will ride the cog railroad to the top of Pike’s Peak and back. The cost will be $55.00 per person. You will be able to enjoy the 360 degree view from 14,110 feet above sea level. The poem “America the Beautiful” was written by Katharine Lee Bates in 1893 when she visited Pike’s Peak. The bus will return to the hotel by 1 p.m.
On Sunday evening our post-conference event will begin at 4 p.m. with a bus ride through the famous Garden of the Gods and then onto the Flying W Ranch where you will enjoy dinner at 7 p.m. The Flying W Ranch is famous for their chuck wagon dinners of BBQ beef, chicken and all the fixings. They are also well known for their western stage show entertainment. This will cost $45.00 per person. This post conference even is open to family and friends of Codas as well.
Betty Colonomos will present a pre-conference workshop for interpreters. It will begin on Tuesday evening, July 7. Watch for more details regarding her workshop. You will need to register with her directly.
Be prepared to dance, eat, play, swim, participate in breakouts, attend workshops, hear stories, enjoy great entertainment, laugh, cry and laugh some more.
